Tip:

Experiment with different color combinations to create a truly unique wrap that reflects your personal style.

Materials Needed:

  • Premier Yarns Spice Shop (or similar bulky, super bulky 6 weight yarn)
  • Approximately 450-500 yards of yarn
  • 10 mm crochet hook
  • Wool-free alternative (if needed): Sweet Roll Bold by Premier Yarns or Lion Brand Hometown Yarn
  • Optional: Stitch marker

Starting the Project:

Begin with a slip knot.

  • Chain three (ch 3).
  • In the very first chain, put two double crochets (2 dc) in the same stitch.
  • Chain three (ch 3), flip your work.
  • In the space just created, put two additional double crochets (2 dc).

Creating the Wrap Base:

In the next space, make three double crochets (3 dc). This starts the Granny Stitch corner-to-corner.

  • For row 1, you have one Granny Stitch.
  • For row 2, you have two Granny Stitches.
  • Continue in this pattern, increasing the number of Granny Stitches by one for each subsequent row until you have a total of 11 rows with each row increasing by one Granny Stitch block.

Color Changes and Size Customization:

  • Switch colors as desired to create the stripes and mixtures of colors in your wrap.
  • If you want the wrap wider than 12 inches, continue increasing on both sides until you reach the desired width before starting the straight section.

Creating the Straight Section:

  • Decide on one side to stop increasing (you can mark this with a stitch marker if it helps) while continuing to increase on the other side.
  • On the non-increase side, start then end each row with a single double crochet instead of a Granny Stitch.
  • Continue this pattern until the wrap reaches the desired length (minus the finishing triangle).

Finishing the Triangle:

  • Once the desired length is reached, you’ll begin to decrease on both sides to close off the wrap and create the finishing triangle.
  • On the decrease side, you’ll begin and end with a double crochet, turning with a chain of three (ch 3) at the end of each row.
  • In the middle sections, continue putting in granny shells in the spaces between granny stitches.
  • Each row going forward will decrease by one granny shell until you reach the final point of the triangle.

Finishing Touches:

  • Once the triangle is closed and you have two sides of consistent granny shells and the base with the initial 11 rows, fasten off and weave in the ends.
  • Optional additional touches include adding pockets or a fringe.
