Materials Needed:

  • Chunky yarn (or weight 4 worsted yarn)
  • 5 mm crochet hook

Pattern Instructions:

Foundation Chain:

  • Start with a slip knot.
  • Chain multiples of 4 to reach the desired width (e.g., chain 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 for a sample swatch)

Row 1 (Single Crochet Row):

  • Work a single crochet into the second chain from the hook.
  • Work one single crochet into each of the next two chains (3 single crochets total).
  • [Chain 1, skip 1 chain] and work 3 single crochets into the next three chains.
  • Repeat the sequence in brackets to the end, finishing with three single crochets in the last three chains.

Row 2 (Double Crochet Row):

  • Chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet).
  • Turn your work.
  • Work one double crochet into each stitch and into each chain-1 space across the entire row.

For Row 3 (Arrow Stitch Setup Row):

  • Chain 1 and turn the work.
  • Work a single crochet into the first stitch.
  • Work a treble crochet into the chain-1 space from the first row (two rows below the current row).
  • Skip the next stitch (behind the treble stitch).
  • Work a single crochet into the next stitch.

  • [Chain 1, skip 1 stitch] then single crochet in the next stitch.

Work a treble two together (tr2tog):

  • Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the chain-1 space two rows below and begin the treble stitch but don’t finish it (stop when two loops are left on the hook).
  • Yarn over twice again, insert the hook into the next chain-1 space two rows below and work another partial treble stitch (stop when three loops are left on the hook).
  • Finally, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
  • Repeat the sequence in brackets across the row, ending with a treble crochet in the last chain-1 space (from the first row).

Row 4 (Double Crochet Row):

  • Chain 3 and turn the work.
  • Work one double crochet into each stitch and into each chain-1 space across the row.

Row 5 and Beyond:

  • Repeat rows 3 and 4 for the pattern, making sure to align the arrow stitches appropriately to create the diagonal arrow effect.
