Materials:
- Fluffy yarn (or cotton milk yarn for demonstration)
- Crochet hook (2.5 mm recommended)
- Stitch marker
- Black, blue, and white thread for Kirby’s face
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Kirby’s Face:
Start with a magic ring.
- Make a loop around your middle finger, secure it with the thumb, and with a 2.5 mm crochet hook, pull out the yarn to make a slip stitch and chain one to start. This starting step does not count as a stitch.
- Work 10 double crochet (DC) into the magic ring.
- After completing 10 DC, tighten the magic ring by pulling the tail yarn.
- Finish the first round by joining with a slip stitch to the first DC.
- Chain two (this counts as a standing stitch) to begin the second round.
Second Round of Kirby’s Face:
Work two DC in each stitch around (for a total of 20 DCs).
- Use a stitch marker to mark the start of the round. Complete the round and join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-two.
- Make two of these round pieces.
Adding Kirby’s Face:
- Use black, blue, and white threads to embroider Kirby’s eyes and mouth onto one of the round pieces. This will be the front of the bookmark.
Star:
- Start with a magic ring.
- Chain two (as standing stitch), then work 10 DC into the ring.
- Close the round with a slip stitch to the first DC, then chain one.
Star Points (make 5):
- SC in the next stitch.
- HDC in the next stitch (same stitch as the SC).
- DC in the same stitch.
- Chain one, then work a treble crochet (TC) in the same stitch.
- Chain one again, DC in the same stitch, and HDC in the same stitch to complete the point.
- Repeat steps 1-5 for the remaining points on the star.
Finishing the Star:
- After completing all five points, close the round with a slip stitch.
Chain:
- Make a chain stitch to the desired length; this will be the tail of the bookmark.
Finishing the Bookmark:
- Assemble the three parts (two round face pieces, the star with the chain).
- Place the yarn tails between the two round pieces and sew or glue them together, making sure Kirby’s embroidered face is on the front.
- Attach the star with the chain to the bottom piece of Kirby’s face.
Final Steps:
- Weave in all loose ends.
- Optionally, use some fabric or craft glue to secure the pieces together if you don’t want to sew, otherwise, use the yarn needle to stitch the parts together neatly.
