    • Contrast B: Pale Grey (10046) — 1 ball or 195 yds/178 m
  • Tools:
    • Size U.S. J/10 [6 mm] Susan Bates® Silvalume® crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge).
    • Susan Bates® yarn needle.

Instructions

Notes:

    • Ch 3 at beginning of round counts as dc.
    • Join each round with a slip stitch to first dc.

Rug Construction Steps:

    • Start: With MC, chain 4. Refer to the diagram on page 3 for further assistance.
    • First Round: 11 dc in 4th chain from hook. Join to form a circle. Total of 12 dc.
    • Second Round: Chain 3. 1 dc in first dc. 2 dc in each dc around. Join. Total of 24 dc.
    • Third Round: Chain 3. 2 dc in next dc, *1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Total of 36 dc.
    • Continue through rounds, following the pattern increase as specified, until the rug reaches the desired diameter and pattern conclusion.

9th Round:

  • Begin with a chain 3. Make 1 double crochet in each of the next 4 double crochets.
  • *2 double crochets in next stitch, then 1 double crochet each in the next 5 double crochets. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches.
  • Finish with 1 double crochet in the second-to-last stitch, and 2 double crochets in the last stitch. Join the round. Total of 120 double crochets.

10th Round:

  • Chain 3. *2 double crochets in the next stitch, then 1 double crochet in each of the next 7 stitches. Repeat from * to the last 7 stitches.
  • 2 double crochets in the next stitch followed by 1 double crochet in each of the last 6 stitches. Join the round. Total of 135 double crochets.

11th to 21st Rounds:

  • Continue to follow the pattern established in previous rounds, increasing the number of double crochets between increases as indicated, and joining at the end of each round.
  • The stitch count increases with each round from 149 up to 287 double crochets.

Finish with Main Color (MC):

  • After the 21st round, break off the main color.

22nd Round – Edging with Contrast A:

  • Join Contrast A (Pale Grey) with a slip stitch to the first double crochet of the previous round.
  • Chain 1, then make 1 single crochet in each double crochet around the round. Fasten off after joining.

Toes (Make 4) and Large Paw Pad:

  • For creating the Toes and Large Paw Pad, follow the same pattern from ** to *** provided for the Rug. Fasten off each piece after completion.

Finishing Touches

  • Block: Lay out all the pieces you’ve worked on and block them flat into the desired shape.
