Tip:

Opt for a soft, stretchable yarn to enhance the comfort and flexibility of your finished socks.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Troitsk yarn from near Moscow (200m/80g), approximately 40g per sock. For larger sizes, use two skeins per pair.
  • Hook: 4 mm hook (Knit Pro Mellow suggested)
  • Contrasting thread for seamless finishing
  • Sewing needle
  • Few stitch markers

Pattern Instructions

Cast On

  • Use a contrasting thread and your main hook.
  • Cast on a chain of 80 air loops for size 36.
  • Adjust by adding 1 loop for each additional size (e.g., 81 for size 37).

Base of the Sock:

  • Begin with a slip stitch into the second chain from the hook.
  • Make 80 slip stitches for the first row (behind the far bow).
  • Continue with 80 slip stitches for rows 2 to 5, turning and starting with an air loop each time.

Heel Creation:

  • Begin decreasing for the heel starting from the 6th row:

Row 6:

  • Work 78 slip stitches, stop before the last two.
  • Mark the 40th loop (peak of the heel).
  • From the 7th row onwards, continue decreasing by 2 stitches in every alternate row till you reach 14 stitches.

Heel Detail:

  • Start increasing in the opposite direction:
  • From 14 stitches, increase in increments of 2 till you reach the original 80 stitches needed to enclose the heel segments.

Body of the Sock:

  • Continue knitting in rounds from the toe to the cuff.
  • Make ventilation slip stitches in every row till you reach the desired length of the sock (before the ankle).

Cuff:

  • Switch to elastic stitch, or any preferred cuff stitch, and work several rounds according to desired cuff length.

Seamless Join:

  • Finish by cutting the yarn, leaving a long tail.
  • Use a sewing needle to stitch the toe seamlessly, following the “invisible seam” technique described in the video (Bosnian knitting method).

Finishing Touches:

  • Weave in all ends.
  • Optionally, block the socks to ensure even shaping and size.

Additional Tips:

  • Always knit a gauge swatch to match the tension suggested (23 stitches/10 cm).
  • Adjust the pattern for different foot sizes based on the initial increases described.
  • Use the contrasting lifeline to ensure a seamless grafting at the toe.
