Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (Red Heart was used in the video)
  • Crochet hook (5.25 mm or anything close)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing
  • Safety eyes (or you can embroider the eyes)

Snowman’s Head:

Start with a magic ring.

  • Place 6 single crochets inside the magic ring.
  • Pull tail to close the magic ring.
  • Increase in each stitch around for a total of 12 single crochets.
  • 1 single crochet, 1 increase repeat 6 times for a total of 18 stitches.
  • 2 single crochets, 1 increase repeat 6 times for a total of 24 stitches.
  • Single crochet in each stitch around for the next 5 rounds, maintaining 24 stitches per round.

Decrease for the top of the head (begin shaping the dome of the head):

  • 2 single crochets, 1 decrease repeat 6 times for a total of 18 stitches.
  • 1 single crochet, 1 decrease repeat 6 times for a total of 12 stitches.

Snowman’s Nose:

  • Make a slip knot leaving a long tail.
  • Chain 3.
  • Skip two chains, and place a single crochet in the first chain.

  • Cut the yarn leaving a tail and secure the knot.

Eyes and Mouth:

  • Attach safety eyes or embroider the eyes and mouth as desired.

Snowman’s Body:

  • Working in the front loops, 1 single crochet, 1 increase repeat 6 times for a total of 18 stitches.
  • In both loops now, 2 single crochets, 1 increase repeat 6 times for 24 stitches.
  • 3 single crochets, 1 increase repeat 6 times for 30 stitches.
  • 4 single crochets, 1 increase repeat 6 times for 36 stitches.
  • Single crochet in each stitch around for the next 7 rows, maintaining 36 stitches per round.

Filling and Closing the Body:

  • Add safety eyes for buttons or embroider them.
  • 4 single crochets, 1 decrease repeat 6 times for 30 stitches.

  • 3 single crochets, 1 decrease repeat 6 times for 24 stitches.
  • 2 single crochets, 1 decrease repeat 6 times for 18 stitches.

  • Stuff the body to your desired firmness.
