Materials:

  • Yarn: You will need fingering weight yarn in various colors. The YouTuber used a Rubin yarn, which is 100% acrylic. You will need at least five colors.
  • Crochet hook: Size 3 mm
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch

Pattern:

Granny Square:

Round 1:

  • Make a magic ring.
  • ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in the ring.
  • ch 1, dc in the ring. Repeat 6 more times for a total of 8 dc.
  • Pull on the tail of the magic ring to close it up.
  • ch 1, sl st in the 4th ch from the beginning of the round.

Round 2:

  • Attach the yarn in the ch-1 space after the tail of the previous round.
  • ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the same space.
  • ch 1, 2 dc in the next ch-1 space. Repeat around.
  • ch 1, sl st in the first ch-3 of the round.
  • Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.

For Round 3:

  • Attach the yarn in the ch-1 space before the tail of the previous round.
  • ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 3 dc in the same space.
  • ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch-1 space.
  • ch 1, skip the next 2 dc, 3 dc in the next ch-1 space. Repeat around.
  • ch 1, sl st in the first ch-3 of the round.
  • Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.

Round 4-8:

Repeat round 3 for the desired size of the granny square.

Joining Granny Squares:
