Tip:

Use a variety of colors for the flowers to add a vibrant, eye-catching appeal to your pouch and experiment with different types of yarn for texture variation.

Materials Needed:

  • Fine weight yarn (for the middle part of the flower)
  • Lightweight yarn (for the petal and the rim of the flower)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook (for the fine weight yarn)
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook (for the lightweight yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Pattern:

Start with the Center of the Flower:

  • Make a magic circle using the fine weight yarn and your 2.5 mm crochet hook.
  • Crochet 9 single crochets (sc) into the magic circle.
  • Pull the ring closed and slip stitch (sl st) into the first stitch to finish the round.

Increase for the Second Round:

  • Do increases around by crocheting 2 sc into each stitch.
  • On the last stitch of the round, change to your second yarn color for the middle part of the flower.

Work the Third Round:

  • Slip stitch into the first stitch.
  • Crochet 1 sc into every stitch around.
  • Change to the color you’ve chosen for the petals of the flower on the last stitch.

Create the Petal Foundation:

  • For the petals, switch to lightweight yarn and your 3.5 mm hook.
  • Slip stitch into the first stitch.
  • Half double crochet (hdc) into each st around.

Form the Petals:

  • Slip stitch into the first stitch.
  • (Create 1 sc, then 5 double crochets (dc) into the next stitch (to form a petal)) Repeat this sequence in the pattern all around.

Make the Ruffle Detail:

  • On one of the flowers (which will be the front), add a ruffle detail on the outer edge.
  • With the thinner yarn and 2.5 mm hook, attach yarn to the middle color stitches and sc around, then follow with hdc in the back loops only to create the ruffle effect.

Middle Detail:

  • Switch to your middle color yarn, and with a 2.5 mm crochet hook, crochet sc into the front loops of the stitches where you previously worked the ruffles.

Join Flowers:

  • Create a second flower identical to the first (without the ruffle).
  • Lay them on top of each other, wrong sides together.
  • With the thicker yarn and 3.5 mm hook, sc around the rim, making sure to go through both layers to join the flowers.
  • Stop joining at the last two petals to create an opening.

Create Loops for Stringing:

  • In between the last two petals where the opening is, slip stitch into the stitch and chain 4 to create a hole for the pouch’s string.

Finish the Pouch:

  • Continue single crocheting along the last two petals on the front side only.
  • When reaching the top of one of the petals, chain 30 to create a loop to hang your pouch.
  • Reattach with a sl st into the same stitch and proceed to single crochet until you finish the round.
  • Slip stitch to finish and cut the yarn, weaving in the ends.

Complete:

  • Your crochet flower pouch is now complete and can be used to store small items like AirPods or lip balm.
