Tip:
Opt for a breathable yarn to ensure maximum comfort and prevent overheating, keeping your baby cozy and happy.
Materials Needed:
- Yarn (2 colors recommended: soft pink and ivory)
- H hook (5.00mm)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Waistband:
- Start with pink yarn. Create a slip knot and chain 48.
- Slip stitch to the very first chain to form a circle, ensuring the chain is not twisted.
Round 1:
- Half double crochet (HDC) in each chain around. You will have 48 HDC. Slip stitch to the first HDC to join.
Body of the Pants:
Round 2:
- Chain 1. This round involves working in the front post and back post of the HDC from the previous round. Alternate between front post half double crochet (FPHDC) and back post half double crochet (BPHDC) all the way around. Slip stitch to join.
Change Color (Optional):
- Cut your yarn and join the new color (ivory) with a slip stitch, then chain 1.
Round 3 (Increase Round):
- 5 HDC, then 2 HDC in the next stitch (increase made). Repeat – around.
Rounds 4-14:
- HDC in each stitch around. Slip stitch and chain 1 at the end of each round. This creates the diaper part of the pants.
Leg Separation:
- At the end of round 14, do not chain 1. Instead, count 28 stitches from the start and place a stitch marker if needed.
- Slip stitch to the 28th stitch to separate the legs, chain 1.
Legs (Repeat for Both Legs):
Round 15-40:
- HDC in each stitch around for each leg. Each leg will have 28 stitches per round. Slip stitch and chain 1 at the end of each round.
Round 41 (Decrease Round):
- 5 HDC, then HDC decrease (combining two stitches into one). Repeat – around.
After Round 42:
- Switch back to the main color (if changed before). HDC in each stitch around.
Round 43:
- Repeat the FPHDC and BPHDC pattern for the ribbing effect at the end of the leg.
Finishing:
- Finish off each leg with a round of slip stitches to tighten the opening and cut the yarn.
- Weave in all ends.
Bow (Optional):
- Chain 11 with the pink yarn.
- Single crochet (SC) in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across for a total of 10 SC.
- Chain 1, turn, and SC in each stitch across for 5 rows in total.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Wrap yarn around the center of the bow to form the shape and weave in the ends to secure.
- Sew the bow to the pants as desired.
Final Touches:
- Weave in any remaining ends.
- Add any additional decorations or color variations as you like.
