Crochet A Trendy V-shaped Blouse Pattern
The breathable design ensures comfort during warmer months, while the distinctive V-shape adds a touch of modern flair. This pattern not only boosts your crochet skills but also provides endless possibilities for customizing colors and textures to match your personal style.
Tip:
Use lightweight cotton yarn for a breathable, comfortable fit that showcases the intricate stitch work beautifully.
Materials:
- Sport-weight yarn (e.g., Superwash Merino from Expression Fiber Arts in color Palm Breeze Buttery)
- 4mm crochet hook (even though the recommended hook size is 3 or 3.5mm)
Pattern Overview:
The blouse is worked in panels: the front and back panels. Each panel consists of multiple sections. The front panel has a V-shape while the back panel has a straight edge.
Back Panel:
Section 1 – Main Triangle:
Start with a magic ring.
- Chain 3, work 6 double crochet (dc) inside the ring. This is row 1, and you’ll have 7 stitches.
- Pull the end to close the ring.
- Following rows: Each row adds 6 stitches following a specific increase pattern with chain spaces (described in the video for each row).
- You’ll keep increasing on each row until you reach 34 rows or the desired cuff-to-cuff width. But remember, increasing rows adds length to your blouse, so maintain proportions.
For Section 2 – Shaping the Sleeve Openings:
Start shaping the sleeves by keeping edges straight.
- Begin each row with a decrease at the start and end of the row while increasing in the middle.
- Alternate between a row of double crochets and a row with chain spaces, known as the mesh stitch pattern.
- Continue this pattern for a total of 10 rows, adjusting for the size of the sleeve openings as needed.
Section 3 and 4 – Shaping the Base:
- Create two small triangles at the base of Section 1 to straighten the lower edge of the blouse.
- Use measurements of bust or widest body part as a reference for the width needed.
- Rejoin the yarn for the right look of the triangle base.
- Decrease on each end of the row with the number of stitches given in the video until you reach the last few stitches.
Repeat this process on the other side of the triangle to mirror Section 3.
Front Panel:
- The front panel starts similarly to the back panel but with modifications for the V-neck.
- Determine the neck’s opening by deciding on the number of rows to skip (the example in the video skips 10 rows).
- Count the stitches at the correlating row on the back panel. This count will determine the starting chain count for the front panel.
- Work Section 1 with 10 rows less than the back panel because you’re starting from row 11.
- Follow the same increase pattern on each row.
- Complete sections 2-4, just as the back panel.
Assembly and Finishing:
- Sew the shoulder seams and sides together, aligning rows perfectly.
- For the neckline, work one round in single crochet, then another round in twisted single crochet stitches.
- Work a cuff for the hem and sleeves in single crochet into the back loop only.
- Slip stitch or sew the ends of the ribbing together to join.
