Tip:

For a more fitted look, use a lightweight yarn and smaller hook size to adjust the dress to your desired silhouette.

Materials Needed

  • Medium weight yarn (“Winter King” 100% Acrylic mentioned)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Bra Cups (Make 2 identical pieces)

Using the 2.5 mm hook

  • Start: Slip knot, then chain 11 for S-M size or 15 for L-XL size.
  • Row 1: Block off the last chain, chain 2 (counts as first DC), yarn over, insert into the chain you’re holding, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops (first DC made). Continue with DC in each chain. For 11 chains, you’ll have 13 DC by the end.
  • Row 2 and Beyond: Chain 2 (counts as a DC), turn, DC in the same place, and in each stitch across until the chain-2 space. In the chain-2 space, do 2 DC, chain 2, and 2 DC. Continue on the other side mirroring the pattern. Repeat rows, increasing at the chain-2 gap each row until the bra cup covers your bust. S-M usually requires 5-6 rows, L might need about 8, and XL up to 10.

Joining Bra Cups

  • With yarn still attached to the second cup, chain 2.
  • For creating a band under the bust: Start from the first stitch of one bra cup, place 2 DC, skip 2 stitches, Slip Stitch (SL ST) into the third, then Chain 2, and 2 DC into the same stitch (creates shell-like patterns). Continue this pattern until you reach the end of the second bra cup. Create straps by chaining 80 (or your desired length), then SL ST all the way back down on the chain to the bra cup, ensuring to do a SL ST into every chain.

Dress Bottom

Switch to the 4mm hook

  • At the base of the bra cups, start single crocheting (SC) around the bottoms, making sure you put 2 SC in each double crochet row end to create a smooth edge.
  • Measure to ensure the width matches your waist size, then chain more if needed to reach your desired width, ensuring the total stitches count is a multiple of 3.
  • Connect the chain into a round, making sure not to twist your work.

Creating the Dress Body

  • Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as first DC), skip 2 stitches, (1 DC, chain 1, 1 DC) in next stitch; repeat around. Slip stitch to the top of the starting chain 3 to join.
  • Rounds 2-5: Repeat Round 1, creating V-stitch patterns above each V-stitch from the previous round.
  • Expanding for Hips: In rounds where increases are needed (based on your hip measurement), place increases in designated stitches by adding more chains or stitches in the V-stitch spaces as per your adjustment requirement.
  • Continue the established pattern until the dress reaches your desired length.

Fringe (Optional)

  • Cut yarn strands to desired fringe length.
  • Fold strands in half, hook the loop through an edge stitch at the dress’s base, and pull the tails through the loop. Repeat around the dress hem.

Final Touches

  • Weave in any loose ends with your tapestry needle.
  • Block your dress if desired.
