Materials Needed:

  • Lion Brand Jeans Yarn (Two colors: “Classic” – dark color, “Stonewash” – light color)
  • Denim buttons
  • I 5.5 millimeter crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

Pattern:

Starting Chain:

  • Small/Medium: Chain 212
  • Large: Chain 220
  • Extra Large: Chain 227

Row 1: Linked Double Crochet

  • Skip the first chain and start in the second chain from the hook.
  • Work linked double crochet stitches all the way to the end, making sure to use the specific bars as described in the video to create the side bars.

Row 2: Linked Double Crochet

  • Repeat the linked double crochet, working into the side bars from Row 1.

For Row 3 and Onwards: Half Double Crochet with Color Change

  • Chain 1, then work three half double crochets in the dark color, switch to light color in the third stitch.
  • Work half double crochet in each stitch across until you have four stitches remaining.
  • Switch back to the dark color on the third-to-last stitch and complete the row with the darker color.
  • Small/Medium: Work 45 rows
  • Large: Work 48 rows
  • Extra Large: Work 53 rows

Final Rows (Border): Linked Double Crochet

  • After completing the half double crochet rows, work two more rows of linked double crochet with the dark color so the pattern matches the beginning.

Edging:

  • Work a single row of single crochet along the bottom edge, to prevent curling.

Seaming:

  • Fold the project in half and use single crochets to join the sides to where your stitch marker is placed to form the shoulder portion.

Adding Buttons:

  • Attach the denim buttons along the edge, starting from the shoulder fold down. Optional: also attach buttons along the inside edge to give the illusion of functionality.

Fringe:

  • Cut strands of yarn twice as long as you want the fringe to be, loop them through the stitches along the bottom edge of the poncho, and secure them.
