Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: 290 grams of number 6 yarn in green color
  • Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm (US 7)
  • Accessories: 3.5 marking pins, scissors, and measuring tape
  • Optional: A magnetic button for closure

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Pattern For Base Of The Bag:

Starting Knot:

  • Make a slip knot on your hook.

Foundation Chain:

  • Ch 35. This chain should measure approximately 24 cm.
  • Working into the back loops of your chain, skip the first loop closest to your hook.

First Row:

  • In the second chain from the hook, start making sc in each chain across until you have a total of 34 sc. Turn your work.

Main Body:

First Few Rows:

  • At the beginning of the next row, ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), make 4 sc, then start working in relief stitches for texture. To make a relief stitch, skip the next stitch, and in the following one, yarn over and draw up a loop (as shown in the video, referring to the previous class on the Blanca bag), complete the stitch as instructed in the video.

Repeat the pattern across the row:

  • 4 sc, relief stitch (skip one stitch, work on the next), until the end of the row, finishing with 4 sc.
  • Ch 1, turn your work.

Work this established pattern:

  • Alternating front rows with relief stitches for texture and back rows with only sc to create the fabric’s right and wrong sides consecutively.

Continue for Height:

  • Repeat the pattern for a total of 72 rows to reach the desired bag height of 42.5 cm by 23 cm wide.

Strap Creation:

Start of Strap:

  • On the last row of the bag’s body, without cutting the yarn, continue to crochet 11 sc to start forming the strap.

Strap Pattern:

  • Alternating rows with the established pattern, now on this narrow strip, for 60 rows or until the strap measures about 37 cm by 7.5 cm.

Second Strap:

  • Follow the same pattern for the second strap, maintaining symmetry with the first. This time, the strap will be shorter, about 20 cm long, for a noticeable design feature.

Finishing:

Seaming:

  • Use slip stitches for side seams from the inside of the bag (wrong side) for a neat finish.

Strap Ends:

  • Close each strap’s end with sc, ensuring to hide and secure all loose ends and yarn tails.

Optional Closure:

  • Add a magnetic button inside the bag for closure, if desired.

Tidy up:

  • Weave in all ends securely and cut off any excess yarn.
