  • Yarn: James C Brett Rustic Yarn Tweed, Color No. 30 (20% Wool, 77% Acrylic, 3% Viscose, 760 yards)
  • Crochet Hook: Size 5.5 mm
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • CH: Chain
  • SL ST: Slip Stitch
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • HDC: Half Double Crochet
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • DEC: Decrease
  • HC: Herringbone Crochet (Special instruction noted in Step 4)

Constructions Steps:

Starting the Hexagon

  • Make a chain of six. Close into a ring with a slip stitch.

Round 1:

  • CH 1. Perform Herringbone Crochet (HC) stitch as below:
  • Yarn over, insert hook through the ring center, yarn over, draw up a loop.
  • Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook.
  • Yarn over again, pull through remaining two loops.
  • Repeat HC two more times. CH 2.
  • Continue HC stitches around the ring, forming the first hexagon shape.

Building the Cardigan

Expansion:

  • Continue working in rounds, expanding the hexagonal shape by repeating the set sequence (Steps 14-23) along each of the six sides until you achieve the desired size for the bottom of your cardigan.

Body Rows:

  • Add additional rows to the back and front as needed to size the cardigan. Consult the video description for specific row counts per size.

Finishing Touches

Ribbing:

  • Add ribbing to the top and bottom edges by CH 1 and turning, then perform SC in the back loops down the row. Repeat for desired ribbing length.

Side Seams:

  • Fold the cardigan with wrong sides out. SL ST or sew the sides, starting from the cuff and adhering closely to the ribbed edge. Repeat on the other side.

Sleeves:

  • Chain a length equal to the sleeve opening circumference. Work in SC in the back loops to the desired sleeve length. Sew or SL ST the sleeves into the armholes.

Collar:

  • Chain a length that fits the cardigan’s front opening for the collar. Work in SC similarly to the sleeves. Attach the collar by sewing or SL ST to the body.

Final Touch

Weave in Ends:

  • Securely weave in all loose ends for a neat finish.
