Crochet Halter Top For Beginners
Materials:
- Yarn: Caron Cakes recommended
- Crochet Hook: 4 mm (G/6)
- Stitch Markers
- Tapestry Needle (for weaving in ends)
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Pattern Instructions:
Neckline Chain:
- Choose the size you want to make and chain the corresponding amount based on this pattern. (Chain 36 for XS, 40 for S, 43 for M, 47 for L, 49 for XL, 51 for 5XL).
- Start the first row by double crocheting into the third chain from the hook, working into the back hump of the chain.
- Double crochet in each chain across, ending the row with the indicated number of stitches for your size.
Body of The Halter Top:
- For medium and larger sizes, continue to row two: Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch), 1 dc in the first stitch, 3 dc in the next stitch, then 1 dc in each until the second to last stitch. Work 3 dc in the second last stitch, followed by 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
- Repeat the last row the specified number of times for your size.
- All sizes join here, and you’re now going to start repeats which will increase the width slower. Chain 2, 1 dc in the first stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch, then 1 dc in each until the second last stitch. Work 2 dc in the second last stitch, followed by 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
- Repeat this row the number of times according to your size before proceeding to the side ties.
Side Ties and Finish:
- After completing the main body, chain an additional length for the side ties based on your size (e.g., 45 for size small). Double crochet in each chain until the end, turn your work, and connect to the main body.
- Work across the other side of the top down to the other chain and create a tie of the same length on the opposite side.
- For the neckline strap, attach yarn at one corner, chain a set length, and single crochet back across towards the main body.
- Single crochet around the neck edge, and then repeat the chain and single crochet back sequence for the other strap.
Border/Edging:
- Work a single crochet border down the side edges of the halter top, taking care to equally space out your stitches and capturing any carried yarn within your work so that no ends are visible.
Finishing:
- Fasten off all yarn securely. Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle, ensuring to go through each yarn tail three times to prevent ends from working loose.
