  • Alternate between 4 slip stitches and 4 half double crochets across the row.
  • You should end with 4 slip stitches in the last 4 chains.

Row 2:

  • Chain 1 and turn your work.
  • Start working in the back loops only for this entire row.
  • Work 4 slip stitches in the back loops of the first 4 stitches.
  • Then work 4 half double crochets in the back loops of the next 4 stitches.
  • Alternate between 4 slip stitches and 4 half double crochets until the end of the row.

  • Start by working 4 half double crochets in the back loops only of the first 4 stitches.
  • Follow with 4 slip stitches in the next 4 stitches.
  • Continue alternating between 4 half double crochets and 4 slip stitches until the end of the row.
  • Finish with 4 half double crochets in the back loops of the last 4 stitches.

Row 4:

  • Chain 1 and turn.
  • Follow the pattern set by Row 2 (which is essentially a repeat of Row 3).
  • Alternate between 4 half double crochets and 4 slip stitches, all worked into back loops only, just as you did in Row 3.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4:

  • Continue the pattern by repeating Rows 3 and 4 to achieve the desired length for your project.
  • Each section will have two rows starting with slip stitches (Row 2 pattern) and then two rows starting with half double crochets (Row 3 pattern). This creates the texture of the Almond Stitch.
