Materials Needed:
- Four-ply yarn in black and brown
- A 5 mm crochet hook
- A tapestry needle
- Two pairs of safety eyes (9 mm and 6 mm)
- Scissors
- Polyfill stuffing
Optional: Blush and blush brush
Optional: Hot glue and hot glue stick
Body Pattern:
- Begin with a magic circle. Work 6 single crochets (sc) into the magic circle for the first round.
- For round 2, work 2 sc into each stitch, which will give you a total of 12 stitches.
- For round 3 (last increase round), work 1 sc into the first stitch and 2 sc into the next (1 sc, 1 increase) all the way around, ending with 18 stitches.
- For rounds 4 through 8, work 1 sc into each stitch all the way around for each round.
- After finishing round 8, prepare to attach the safety eyes. Place the 9 mm eyes between rounds 6 and 7, and the 6 mm eyes slightly above the larger eyes. Secure the backs of the eyes.
Mouth:
Use a scrap piece of black yarn (8 inches) and a tapestry needle.
- Make a small smile by threading the yarn through stitches between the eyes, creating a small curved line.
Shaping the Body:
- Round 9 (decrease round), work in the back loops only, and alternate between 1 sc and a decrease (sc2tog) all the way around, leaving you with 12 stitches.
- Stuff the body before fully closing.
For round 10, work a single crochet decrease (sc2tog) all the way around, ending with 6 stitches.
Legs Pattern:
Locate the loops from the back loop only stitches from round 9.
- Insert the hook into a loop, from which you will create legs.
- Create three long legs on each side and two shorter front legs by chaining a number of stitches, making slip stitches back down the chain, and attaching to loops from the body. The long legs are made with a chain of seven, and the shorter front legs with a chain of five.
Stitch the legs down on the body to give them a bent-over spider leg appearance.
Finishing Touches:
- Add blush beneath the smaller eyes for added cuteness.
- Optionally, you can create eyebrows with a small amount of split black yarn, threaded above each eye.
