Jacket Pattern:

Neck Opening:

  • Start with a slip knot and chain 44.
  • Work a Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) into the 3rd chain from the hook.
  • Place a stitch marker in the first HHDC.
  • Continue with HHDC in each stitch across for a total of 42 stitches.

Sleeve and Neck Counting:

  • Count 8 stitches from the first HHDC and place a stitch marker.
  • Keep counting until you reach the 13th stitch; place another stitch marker.
  • Continue to the 29th stitch; add a stitch marker.
  • Place the last stitch marker in the 34th stitch, leaving 8 stitches at the end.
  • Chain 1 and turn, work HHDC up to the first marker.

 Sleeve Openings:

  • Work HHDC, chain 2, and HHDC again. Mark with a stitch marker.
  • Continue HHDC until the next stitch marker. Repeat the HHDC, chain 2, and HHDC.
  • Complete for a total of 12 rows.

Body of Jacket:

  • Connect for sleeve holes by joining chain 2 spaces and skipping stitches between markers.
  • Work HHDC across until reaching the next armhole.
  • After creating both armholes, continue with HHDC in each stitch across for the body, including 2 HHDC in the chain 2 spaces at each “arm” connection.

Color Changes and Body Continuation:

  • Add white yarn and work for 8 rows.
  • Switch to rust color and work for another 8 rows.

Ribbing Along the Bottom:

  • Switch back to white yarn and work 1 row of double crochet (DC).
  • Continue with alternating front and back post DC for the ribbing effect.

Adding Sleeves:

  • Attach the olive yarn to the sleeve opening.
  • Work HHDC around, decreasing at each underarm by doing HHDC two together.
  • Continue for 28 stitches around.
  • Work 12 rows in olive, then change to white for 8 rows.
  • Change to rust for 8 rows and finish with ribbing to match the jacket’s bottom.

Hood:

  • Work HHDC from the back neck opening, up to create the hood for 12 rows (or to the desired height).
  • Sew along the top of the hood to close it.

Ribbing Around Hood and Front:

  • Attach white yarn at the bottom right corner on the front of the jacket.
  • Work DC ribbing up the front, around the hood edge, and down the other side.
  • Continue for four rows of the ribbing pattern (front post and back post DC).

Finishing:

  • Weave in all ends, remove markers, and sew any parts of the jacket that need reinforcement.
